Appointment Questions

A: Follow up appointments can be booked in by the receptionist either at the desk or over the telephone (if the doctor or Nurse has asked to see you again). If you are requesting a new appointment, you will asked to give some idea of the urgency and nature of the problem, the receptionist will then book you a triage call with the duty doctor to discuss your problem with you. The doctor will decide whether you need to be seen or if the problem can be dealt with over the phone. This is called the triage system.

A: No. Podiatry is a seperate department from whitefields surgery. They have their own receptionist situated in Camphill Health Centre next door to us. You can call them on 01604 766431.

A: Yes. You can either ring or come to the surgery and speak to a receptionist who will book you a telephone appointment with the requested GP or duty doctor for that day if urgent.

Medication/Prescriptions

A: You can choose where you would like to collect your prescriptions. You can collect from us at the reception desk or we can send your prescriptions to the chemist next door who will dispense your medication for you to collect (we dispense medication at Whitefields Surgery for patients who live more than one mile from a chemist). You can also provide us with S.A.E to get your prescription posted to your home or chemist of choice.

A: At the reception desk there are request slips to do this. Alternatively you can fax (01604 708528), post or email us your request stating your name and date of birth or you can register with EMIS Access where you can order online.

A: We ask for the 48hours notice so that we can arrange to produce the prescription, have it checked and signed by a doctor and then either dispense the medication (if you live more than a mile from a chemist), or make it available for collection at the surgery or the local chemist.

A: We no longer issue prescriptions over the phone as we have found that mistakes can easily be made this way.

Results

A: Please hand in ALL samples before 11am at the reception desk with your name and date of birth.

A: This usually depends on the tests that are being done on the sample. The nurse will inform you at your appointment of how long you may have to wait for your results to come back.

A: If your test is abnormal and needs action, someone from the surgery will contact you by telephone. If you do not hear anything back regarding your results, this usually means your results are fine. If you would like to know your results, you can ring the surgery and we can book a telephone appointment with your GP. Please note: Receptionist are not trained to read results.

A: If you are living in our catchment area please contact us and we will inform you if we are currently taking on patients. If our list is open, you will be asked to collect and fill in the relevant forms to register. You MUST provide photo ID and proof of address when handing in completed forms. You will then be booked a new patients appointment with the nurse.
